Getting the momentum going

I have officially been on the "couch to 5k program" for one month. The first week or so was difficult because I weighed 153 pounds and wasn't used to any sort of exercise (even walking briskly). I felt like I was going to vomit after twenty minutes on the treadmill.

After I got used to the walking in about a week, I began doing equal time on the elliptical. If I did fifteen minutes on the treadmill, I did fifteen minutes on the elliptical. I then discovered a tricky little button on the treadmill that allows you to walk on an incline (don't laugh- no one has ever shown me what all of the buttons on the treadmill are for!)

I start the walking/running regimen this week. I was a little apprehensive about running because of what it does to my shins (I am pretty sure that I look like a galloping giraffe when I try to run- my running form is all f-ed). So last week, I was mixing in a little bit of jogging with my walks. And I started increasing my times on the treadmill to minimum one hour, regardless of what the regimen said. And now I'm going to the gym EVERY day to walk.

Yesterday, I jogged for five minutes without stopping at a 4.5 pace and a 2.0 incline on the treadmill. It was not easy! I had to cover up the time on the display because I couldn't breathe and was so fixated on how much time I had left, when really I should just distract myself with the tv or something.

I am now down to 147 pounds (6 pounds lost in one month). And that was just with walking. I wasn't really watching what I was eating- when I am at home, I eat healthy, but when I go out to eat, I eat whatever. I ate a lot of crap when I was in Philadelphia, but I justified it because we were walking everywhere. I am now writing down everything that I eat and don't go over 1,300 calories a day.

My next goal is to start incorporating abdominal work into my workouts because I have just been working my legs (and to be quite honest, the pregnancy rumors are what got me here in the first place! it would be nice to have a flatter stomach.)
